New Instagram Updates & Features – July 2026

Instagram comments are getting a lot more visual. With this new update, users can now add photos directly in the comment section under Instagram posts and Reels. So instead of replying only with text, emojis, or GIF-like reactions, people can now drop actual images into the conversation. That means more memes, screenshots, reaction photos, product pictures, visual answers, and probably a lot more chaos in the comments section. 🙂For regular users, this makes conversations feel more expressive and less limited. Sometimes, a picture really does say more than a carefully typed-out comment.Photo comments can make audience interactions more engaging, especially if you’re asking followers to share something visual – like:

  • their favorite product setup,
  • before-and-after results,
  • outfit ideas,
  • pet photos,
  • screenshots,
  • memes,
  • UGC-style responses.

It also gives brands another way to collect quick, visual feedback from their community without asking people to post Stories or send DMs.

Still, it’s a fun update – and one that could make Instagram comment sections feel much more alive.

New feature on Instagram – Instants

Instagram has introduced a brand-new feature called Instants, designed for sharing spontaneous, unedited photos with your friends. The idea is pretty simple: take a quick photo, send it, and let the moment disappear.Unlike regular Instagram posts or Stories, Instants are all about real-time sharing. There are no filters, no heavy editing, and no pressure to make everything look perfect. So yes, Instagram is once again trying to make social media feel a little more casual and “in the moment.”Here’s how Instants work:

  • You can share photos with your Close Friends or mutual followers.
  • Instants disappear after they’ve been opened.
  • They can’t be viewed after 24 hours.
  • You can access them directly from Instagram or through a separate Instants app.
  • Instagram is also planning hands-free Instants sharing with Meta glasses.

So, what does this mean for creators and brands? For now, Instants seem to be more of a private-sharing feature than a marketing tool. But it’s still worth keeping an eye on, especially if Instagram continues to build more casual, DM-focused ways of sharing content. After all, DMs and private communities are becoming a bigger part of how people use Instagram, and Instants fit right into that trend.
